Guida alla prima maglia in lana Sopravissana: taglie, vestibilità, abbinamenti

Guide to the first Sopravissana wool sweater: sizes, fit, styling

After a summer spent telling you where our wool comes from, the moment we had been waiting for has arrived: wearing it. If you are thinking about buying your first Italian short-supply-chain merino wool sweater, this guide will help you choose the right style, size, and color without making a mistake, and understand how to wear it every day.

Why start with a Sopravissana wool sweater

At Lanaioli, we work with Italian merino wool from selected farms in Lazio, the same land where the Sopravissana breed has returned to live, the one that the former Papal States had not forgotten. The Short Supply Chain line sweaters are made from 100% merino wool, washed, carded, and dyed by specialized Italian companies and made up by Italian artisans. A merino wool sweater is a practical choice before it is an ethical one: the fiber is soft against the skin, breathable, and able to retain warmth without adding weight. It is also a garment that can be repaired: the product pages for our garments indicate the Lanaioli repair service.

The five styles to choose from

Today, the Short Supply Chain line includes five knitwear pieces, all available in six colors: Electric Blue, Bordeaux, Sky Blue, Pearl Gray, Natural Wool, and Black.

For him, there is the crew-neck sweater (91 euros), simple and compactly structured, and the long-sleeve polo (98 euros), for those who want a more polished touch without giving up comfort. For her, there is the oversized crew-neck sweater (87.50 euros), with flared sleeves and fluid lines, the ribbed crew-neck sweater (87.50 euros), and the ribbed turtleneck sweater (91 euros).

How to choose your size

Men's sizes are S, M, and L, with a regular fit, meaning neither tight nor loose. These are the sweater's width and length measurements in centimeters for the crew-neck style: S measures 64 x 56, M 66 x 58, and L 68 x 60. For the long-sleeve polo, the measurements are 68 x 54 for S, 69 x 56 for M, and 70 x 58 for L. The simplest advice is to take a sweater you already wear and that fits you well, lay it flat, and compare its measurements with those in the size chart.

Women's sizes are S and M. The ribbed sweater and the turtleneck have a regular fit: the stretchy ribbed knit follows the body without feeling tight. The oversized sweater is designed to be loose and enveloping, so if you love a relaxed look, stick to your usual size, while if you prefer a less voluminous effect, you can consider the smaller size. If you are unsure, write to us: we will be happy to help, and in case of a mistake, you can return it within 14 days.

How to wear it: three simple ideas

The men's crew-neck sweater in Pearl Gray or Electric Blue looks great over a shirt with just the collar showing, or on its own with dark jeans for the weekend. The long-sleeve polo in Bordeaux becomes almost a lightweight jacket: try it with tailored trousers and leather shoes for the office.

For her, the oversized sweater in Natural Wool works well for a relaxed look with straight-leg trousers or a long pleated skirt. The ribbed turtleneck sweater in Black is the perfect base to wear under a blazer, while the Sky Blue ribbed crew-neck sweater adds brightness to a denim dress or a pair of cream-colored trousers.

How to care for it so it lasts

Merino wool is naturally odor-resistant and does not need frequent washing. When necessary, it is best to hand-wash it or use a delicate cycle in cold water, without fabric softener, and lay it flat to air-dry, away from heat sources. Store it folded, not on a hanger, so it does not lose its shape. And if it should ever become damaged, do not throw it away: bring it to us.

Where to start

If this is your first Italian short-supply-chain merino wool sweater, start with the style you will wear most during the week: for many people, it is the crew neck, while for others it is the turtleneck.
