We promised you a few weeks ago: something was in the works at Lanaioli for autumn-winter, and today we can finally start telling you about it. The first major announcement has a very specific name: Maeko Yarns, a partner joining our supply chain and helping us expand the world of natural fibres we use to make our garments.
Who Maeko Yarns is
Maeko Tessuti e Filati is based in Quaregna Cerreto, in the province of Biella, at the heart of Italy’s most famous textile district. For years, the company has worked at the forefront of natural textile innovation, specialising in what industry professionals call “intimate blending”: a manufacturing process that combines premium natural and ecological fibres before spinning, creating yarns with aesthetic and performance characteristics that the individual fibres could not offer on their own.
Their catalogue is a true inventory of textile biodiversity: hemp, linen, wool, cashmere, silk, alpaca, yak, ramie, organic cotton, and even more unusual fibres such as Himalayan nettle. It is a philosophy founded on biological research, sustainability and technical innovation, with an almost artisanal focus on the quality of the final yarn—exactly the values on which Lanaioli has built its identity since day one.
Why this partnership, and why now
Those who follow us know that our constant—and lasting—focus remains short-supply-chain merino wool, produced through collaboration with breeders in central Italy and at our own family farm. But we also know that the philosophy of slow fashion does not end with a single yarn: it means continuing to seek natural, traceable and low-impact raw materials that can respond to the different needs of those who wear our garments.
With Maeko Yarns, we have found an ally who shares this vision exactly: no compromises on the natural origin of fibres, no shortcuts towards synthetics, but a constant search for materials that combine performance, comfort and respect for the environment. This partnership allows us to broaden the range of natural fibres in our upcoming autumn-winter collection, while maintaining the same artisanal care and supply-chain transparency that have always set us apart.
What this means for the autumn-winter collection
This collaboration will give rise to new garments made with fibres that will expand our offering: from organic cotton to linen, from hemp to more sophisticated blends combining merino wool with other fine fibres such as yak, to create even higher-performance garments for the colder months.
