Cashmere: come prendersi cura del più pregiato dei filati - Lanaioli

How to wash, dry, and iron Cashmere garments. The advice of the Lanaioli

The selection of Cashmere yarns by Lanaioli

Lanaioli has selected for its Customers the best 100% Cashmere Yarns and, aware of the need for eco-sustainable choices, Regenerated Cashmere Yarns.

In both cases, the utmost care and attention in handling a Cashmere garment is essential to maintain over time the characteristics that distinguish it and make it practically eternal.

How to wash Cashmere without damaging our garments?

First of all, washing pure Cashmere garments: this must be done exclusively in cold water (at most lukewarm at 30° C) and strictly preferring hand washing over machine washing.

For washing operations, it is always recommended to use a neutral liquid soap, even better if explicitly designed for washing Cashmere garments.

It is also advisable to avoid soaking the garment for a long time (15 to 20 minutes is more than enough) and usually it should not be wrung out, or if necessary, always do so very gently to then rinse it carefully.

Although washing in a machine is not recommended, it is possible by keeping the spin cycle very low and using specific wool programs.

How to dry our Cashmere garments?

To dry Cashmere, it is recommended not to hang or drape it on drying racks or lines like other garments, but preferably to lay it flat on a horizontal surface, avoiding direct sunlight or other heat sources.

Can a Cashmere sweater be ironed?

Garments in Cashmere should always be ironed inside out to avoid damage and when dry, possibly remove pilling with a damp hard brush.

The formation of pills on Cashmere, how to remove them?

Speaking of pilling, let's delve into this particular process that leads to the formation of small fiber balls called “pills.”

This process cannot be prevented and has nothing to do with the quality of a product. It naturally happens that the finer threads of the yarn loosen, rubbing against each other and forming these small balls.

After a few washes, excess pilling will need to be removed to reveal the “heart” of the fiber. Excess fiber can be eliminated with the help of a soft brush or with the special comb for cashmere.

Store Cashmere in the wardrobe protected from moths

Like all garments made of fine wool, even Cashmere fears moths, and for this reason, it is recommended to store them in the wardrobe protected with special storage bags (preferably cotton), avoiding cellophane or, worse, hanging them. To prevent irreparable damage, use moth-repellent products based on lavender or other similar preparations that can be easily found on the market.
